What is it?

There are agreements for people who need to integrate. These agreements are not the same for everyone. For more detailed information and exceptions, please visit the Inburgeren.nl website at .

If you come to live in the Netherlands, it is important that you learn the Dutch language. It is also important that you learn how Dutch people live and work. We call this integration.

At Inburgeren.nl, you will find more information about integration and what it entails. You are considered integrated once you have passed the integration exam.

You can read more about the integration exam on the DUO website.

Integration from January 1, 2022

The new Integration Act will come into force on January 1, 2022. From then on, it will be the municipality's responsibility to help you integrate as quickly as possible. You will take language lessons, find work, or follow a training course. This new law will enable newcomers to participate quickly in Dutch society. You can read more about these rules at www.inburgeren.nl.

Please note: The new system applies to integration program participants who are required to integrate after January 1, 2022. The letter from DUO states the date from which you must integrate. This date determines which system you fall under. If you no longer have the letter, you can see when you must integrate in Mijn Inburgering (My Integration) at www.inburgeren.nl.

Learning point in library

The learning center in the Beneden-Leeuwen library offers residents within the municipality the opportunity to improve their Dutch language and computer skills.

The lessons consist of:

  • Getting acquainted with the computer
  • Email and internet
  • Reading and reading aloud
  • Filling out forms
  • Writing reports and notes
  • Writing good sentences
  • Spelling (work) words

A personal learning goal is first determined with the student. Depending on what the student wants to learn, the above modules are used. If necessary, a student can repeat the lessons at the learning center for another 10 weeks.

How does it work?

Integration is mandatory for certain groups.

Refugee/asylum seeker

Did you come to the Netherlands as a refugee and do you now have a residence permit? Then you are a status holder. The following applies to you as a status holder with regard to integration:

  • You will receive a letter from the Education Executive Agency (DUO). The letter will state the date from which you must start the integration program. If you no longer have the letter, you can find the start date for your integration program on Mijn Inburgering at www.inburgeren.nl.
  • As a status holder, you will receive assistance with integration from the municipality.
  • You will receive social guidance and practical support from Sociom.

Family migrant or other migrant

Did you not come to the Netherlands as a refugee and do you have a residence permit? Then you are a family migrant or other migrant. This applies, for example, if you came to the Netherlands to live with your Dutch partner. Or if you came to the Netherlands for your work as a spiritual minister. The following applies to family migrants or other migrants with regard to integration:

  • You will receive a letter from the Education Executive Agency (DUO). The letter will state the date from which you must start the integration program. If you no longer have the letter, you can find the start date for your integration program on Mijn Inburgering at www.inburgeren.nl.
  • You can study for the exam yourself, but most people take a course at a language school. You can also take out a loan from DUO to cover the costs. For more information, visit www.inburgeren.nl.

Voluntary integration

Voluntary integration is also possible. This means that you want to do it yourself, but that it is not mandatory.

Not integrating

Check the IND website to see when you do not need to take the integration exam.

How long will it take?

You will receive your exam results within 8 weeks.

Passed

Did you pass the integration exam?

DUO will then send your diploma to you by registered mail.

Failed

If you did not pass, you can take the exam again. You will then have to pay again.
