In a historic setting at Loevestein Castle, dressed in traditional costumes and armed with quill pens, Alderman Carla Kreuk of Tiel, Alderman Ed Goossens of Zaltbommel, and Alderman Marieke van den Boom of West Maas en Waal signed the official cooperation agreement "Hanseatic Cooperation River Area" on July 1. The signing marks the beginning of an intensive collaboration between the three Hanseatic cities, thereby revitalizing their shared history and culture.
Working Together to Bring the Hanze Story to Life
The partnership aims to connect the region’s Hanseatic past with its future. By developing recreational routes, events, stories, and packages, the municipalities hope to make this heritage tangible for both visitors and residents. Another key objective is to promote the region collectively within the international Hanseatic League.
Message in Hanseatic language
During the signing ceremony, the three mayors delivered a joint message in elegant Hanseatic language: “Let this covenant bear witness to our firm resolve to establish this partnership with justice and loyalty, so that our cities may flourish in prosperity, united by the ancient Hanseatic League, from this day forward and for all time.”
