The municipality wants to encourage residents to collect rainwater using a rain barrel. This helps them conserve drinking water and contributes to a more resilient community.

A rain barrel is an easy and sustainable way to collect water. This allows residents to water their gardens with rainwater instead of tap water. This conserves drinking water and reduces the strain on the sewer system during heavy rainfall. 

The Municipality of West Maas en Waal wants to encourage residents to collect rainwater with a rain barrel. This way, they save drinking water and contribute to a resilient municipality. In collaboration with garden center GroenRijk Beneden-Leeuwen, the municipality offers residents an attractive discount: with a voucher, they can buy a rain barrel for only €50. Normally, this rain barrel costs €109.99.

Good for the climate and your wallet

A rain barrel is an easy and sustainable way to collect water. It allows residents to water their gardens with rainwater instead of tap water. This conserves drinking water and reduces the strain on the sewer system during heavy rainfall. Storing water is also useful for dry periods.

Alderman Evert Jan Slootweg emphasizes the importance of this initiative:
“With a rain barrel, we can collectively do something for our living environment. You help save water and prevent water nuisance. I am pleased that we can do this together with GroenRijk Beneden-Leeuwen. Through this collaboration, we make it easier for residents to contribute to a greener and more climate-resilient West Maas en Waal.”

How does the promotion work?

Residents of West Maas en Waal can apply for a voucher via the municipality's website starting November 10. The voucher can be picked up at the municipal office from November 24 to December 24. With this voucher, residents can purchase a 200-liter rain barrel at GroenRijk Beneden-Leeuwen for only €50. The rain barrel can be purchased until December 29, 2025.
