Apply for a grave in a municipal cemetery
What is it?
If a loved one has passed away, you can bury them in a municipal or private cemetery. If you choose a municipal cemetery, you must apply for a grave at the municipality. The funeral director can arrange this for you.
How does it work?
You can bury your loved one in a municipal cemetery if you pay burial rights to the municipality. This means that you rent the grave for a certain period of time. You can always extend this period.
If you rent the grave, you are the rightful owner of the grave. You then decide who may be buried there. Ask the funeral director how many people can be buried in the grave.
What should I do?
The funeral director can apply for a grave at the municipality. You may also do this yourself.
Please provide the following information with your application:
- the name, date of birth, and place of birth of the person who has died
- the date and place of death
- the date on which the funeral takes place
- how long you want to rent the grave (for example, ten, twenty, or thirty years)
- grave details (the location of the grave, etc.)
Renouncing the grave
If the lease period is still running and you no longer want the grave, you can relinquish it. You can do this by submitting a declaration of relinquishment to the municipality.
Transcription of the grave
If the person entitled to the grave has died, you can transfer the grave to a family member. Do this within one year of the death of the person entitled to the grave.
Extending the grave
As the entitled party, you can extend the grave rights. Please contact us to do so. You can call us during opening hours on 14 0487 or send an email to info@westmaasenwaal.nl.
