Request a grave at the municipal cemetery
What is it?
If a loved one has passed away, you can have them buried in a municipal or private cemetery. If you choose a municipal cemetery, you must apply for a burial plot with the local government. The funeral director can handle this for you.
How does it work?
You can bury your loved one in a municipal cemetery if you pay burial rights to the municipality. This means that you are renting the grave for a specific period. You can always extend this period.
If you lease the grave, you are the rightful owner of the grave. You then decide who may be buried there. Ask the funeral director how many people can be buried in the grave.
What should I do?
The funeral director can apply for a burial plot with the municipality. You may also do this yourself.
Please include the following information with your application:
- the name, date of birth, and place of birth of the deceased
- the date and place of death
- the date of the funeral
- how long you want to rent the grave (for example, ten, twenty, or thirty years)
- grave details (the location of the grave, etc.)
Relinquishing the grave
If the lease is still in effect and you no longer wish to keep the grave, you can relinquish it. To do so, submit a declaration of relinquishment to the municipality.
Relocating the grave
If the person entitled to the grave has passed away, you can transfer the grave to a family member. You must do this within one year of the person’s death.
Extending the grave
As the rights holder, you can renew the grave rights. Please contact us to do so. You can call us during business hours at 14 0487 or email us at info@westmaasenwaal.nl.
How much does it cost?
