Install a slot machine
What is it?
A slot machine is a machine that lets you win money, such as a fruit machine. This isn't possible with a skill-based machine. Think of a pinball machine or video games.
- If you want to install a slot machine in your business, you need an operating license. You can apply for this license from the municipality.
- You do not need an occupancy permit for an arcade machine.
How does it work?
- Only restaurants, bars, and arcades are permitted to install slot machines.
- The owner of the slot machine must hold an operating license from the Gaming Authority.
Hospitality Industry
If you want to install a slot machine in your restaurant or bar, the following additional rules apply:
- You have a valid operating license for your hospitality business.
- You have a valid liquor license.
- Your hospitality business is used exclusively for hospitality-related activities.
What should I do?
- You must apply for an occupancy permit from the municipality.
- If you also own the slot machine, you can apply for an operating license through the municipality at the same time.
- When submitting your application, please be sure to include the following:
- how many slot machines you want to install in your establishment
- the name and address of your business
- the name and address of the owner of the slot machine
- Always notify the municipality if anything changes. For example, if the vending machine changes owners, or if you want to install more or fewer vending machines in your business.
How long does it take?
You will receive a response from the municipality within eight weeks regarding whether your permit has been approved.
Additional information
Are you a provider of high-risk games of chance in casinos or slot machine parlors? If so, as of October 1, 2021, you must be connected to the Central Register of Excluded Gamblers (Cruks). Before a player can gamble, you must check whether the person in question is registered in this registry.
If so, you may not admit the player.
