This is an old message.

During a tile exchange campaign organized by the municipality of West Maas en Waal, no fewer than 143 households exchanged 560 m² of garden tiles for plants and shrubs. The most popular plant among participants was the licorice plant, followed by the butterfly bush.

The tile exchange campaign organized by the municipality of West Maas en Waal on Saturday, April 12, was a great success. No fewer than 143 households handed in 560 m² of garden tiles on this sunny day. In exchange, they received plants that promote biodiversity. To ensure that everything ran smoothly, 13 enthusiastic volunteers lent a hand.

Favorites: licorice plant and butterfly bush

Residents were able to indicate their plant preferences in advance. The most popular plant among participants was the licorice plant, followed by the butterfly bush. Both plants are loved by bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects and contribute to a vibrant, green garden.

Step in the right direction

Alderman Evert Jan Slootweg also lent a hand on the day of the campaign and looks back on the campaign with satisfaction:

"What a fantastic day! It's wonderful to see how committed our residents are. Removing 560 square meters of stone is a real step in the right direction. Together, we are making our municipality greener, healthier, and more future-proof."

With the tile exchange campaign, the municipality is taking a concrete step toward a climate-friendly living environment. After all, greenery in the garden not only helps prevent flooding, but also provides cooling and greater biodiversity. In short: a win-win situation for everyone.
