Municipal Archives

What is the municipal archive?

The municipal archives store all kinds of written documents, maps, photographs, and newspaper clippings. In the municipal archives, you can find information about:

  • your family history (genealogy)
  • a residential house or business
  • a neighborhood or district
  • the municipality itself

What should I do?

  • Please send an email to info@westmaasenwaal.nl.
  • Please clearly state in the email what information you are looking for.
  • For data older than twenty years, it is best to contact the regional archive or a Regional Historical Center (RHC) in your province.

Genealogical research

The municipality only stores information from its own records. Therefore, you may need to search for information for genealogical research in several municipalities. You can do this as follows:

  • You go to the municipality from which you want information.
  • If certain information needs to be retrieved from the municipal archives, the municipality can forward your request.
  • You can also contact the National Archives.
