Municipal Archives

What is the municipal archive?

The municipal archives preserve all kinds of written documents, Maps, photographs, and newspaper clippings. In the municipal archives, you can find information about:

  • your family history (genealogy research)
  • a home or business
  • a neighborhood
  • the municipality itself

What should I do?

  • Please send an email to info@westmaasenwaal.nl
  • Please clearly state in the email what information you are looking for.
  • For records older than twenty years, it is best to contact the local archives or a Regional Historical Center (RHC) in your province.

Genealogical Research

The municipality only retains information from its own records. Therefore, you may need to search for information for genealogical research at multiple municipalities. You can do this as follows:

  • Go to the municipality from which you want information.
  • If certain records need to be retrieved from the municipal archives, the municipality can forward your request.
  • You can also visit the National Archives at .
