The Municipality of West Maas en Waal will receive manhole covers with the municipal coat of arms

This is an old post.

Alderman Jan Slootweg unveiled the first new manhole cover at City Hall. What makes this cover unique is that it features the city’s coat of arms. The unveiled cover is particularly special because of its beautiful painting. The supplier, Henrie van Geneijgen of Nering Bögel BV in Weert, was present at the unveiling.

Alderman Jan Slootweg: “Today, we are proud to unveil the first manhole cover featuring our municipal coat of arms. This unique piece is beautifully painted and is a wonderful addition to our municipality. From now on, these manhole covers will be installed in various projects, such as on Molenlaan in Beneden-Leeuwen G.M. Poststraat in Wamel. Although the standard manhole covers are uncolored, they are certainly just as attractive. Our goal is to eventually replace all 3,000 manhole covers in the municipal sewer system. This will take some time, but the result will certainly be worth it. A pleasant bonus that ultimately convinced us to start this project is that the cost for this manhole cover with the coat of arms is the same as for one without the coat of arms."

The municipality wants to enhance the appearance of public spaces. It does this by planting trees and shrubs, installing attractive paving, and adding features such as street furniture. This manhole cover adds a new element to these efforts. The cover also complies with the latest European standards. From a health and safety perspective, this is also better for field staff.

For now, the painted piece is on display in the lobby of City Hall.
