Disabled parking permit

What is a disabled parking permit?

With a disabled parking permit, you can park in disabled parking spaces in all EU countries, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland. You must, however, comply with local parking regulations.

You may be eligible if you:

  1. have a demonstrable walking impairment of a long-term nature (longer than 6 months) as a result of a condition or disability, and
  2. are unable to walk independently for more than 100 meters at a time using the usual walking aids.

There are three types of cards.

Driver card

  • You will be unable to walk more than 100 meters independently for at least six months. This includes with aids such as a cane or crutches. 
  • You can drive yourself.

Passenger ticket 

  • You will be unable to walk more than 100 meters independently for at least six months. This includes with aids such as a cane or crutches. 
  • You cannot drive a car yourself. You need the constant assistance of a driver.

You can also apply for a combination of a driver card and a passenger card. For example, if you are permanently confined to a wheelchair.

Settings card 

The management of an institution where people with disabilities reside can apply for a disabled parking permit for the transportation of residents.

How much does a disabled parking permit cost?

The costs for a disabled parking permit are:

  • $120.00

How does it work?

  • The parking permit is registered to a specific person.
  • The parking card is not linked to a specific license plate. You can use the card for any car.
  • The parking permit is valid for a maximum of 5 years.

Where can I park with a disabled parking permit?

With a disabled parking permit, you may park your car in three types of disabled parking spaces. You may also park in spaces marked with a 'No Parking' sign. In some cases, you can park for free in a regular parking space with a parking meter. In some parking spaces, you must use a parking disc. What should I do?

  • You can apply for a disabled parking permit by calling VraagWijzer at 0487 790 790. You can also send an email to info@vraagwijzerwmw.nl.
  • You will receive an application form which you must complete, sign, and return to VraagWijzer with one recent passport photo that meets the passport photo requirements.
  • You will receive a form to be completed by your treating physician.
  • If, in addition to the information provided by your treating physician, a medical examination is required, you will be notified in advance.
  • If a disabled parking permit is required, you will be notified when you can collect it from the town hall reception desk.
  • You are required to pay for the disabled parking permit when you collect it.

How long will it take?

You will receive a decision on your application within 8 weeks. If external medical advice is required, this period may be extended.
