Dyslexia
What is it?
A child with dyslexia has serious problems with reading and spelling despite having normal intelligence. Children with dyslexia usually have problems with both reading and spelling, but sometimes only with reading or spelling.
Dyslexia is a major problem that occurs in all subjects where language plays a role: English, other languages, arithmetic and mathematics, and most minor subjects.
Under the Youth Act, the municipality must support children with severe, single dyslexia (EED). Single means that, apart from dyslexia, the child has no mental health disorder, disability, or other language or learning disorders.
How does it work?
If you suspect that your daughter or son has dyslexia, you should contact the school and make an appointment to discuss your daughter/son's results with you. The school can then advise you on whether to investigate the possibility of EED.
The school compiles a file that it forwards to a research agency contracted by the municipality. The research agency reviews the file and determines whether treatment is necessary.
If your child is eligible for treatment, you can contact Vraagwijzer. They will help you submit the application.
