What is it?

A child with dyslexia has serious difficulties with reading and spelling, despite having normal intelligence. Children with dyslexia usually have trouble with both reading and spelling, but sometimes they struggle with only one of these skills.

Dyslexia is a major problem that affects all subjects involving language: Dutch, other languages, arithmetic and mathematics, and most elective courses.

Under the Youth Act, the municipality is required to provide support to children with severe, isolated dyslexia (EED). “Isolated” means that, apart from dyslexia, the child does not have any mental health disorders, disabilities, or other language or learning disabilities.

How does it work?

If you suspect that your daughter or son has dyslexia, you should contact the school and Make an appointment discuss your child’s results with them. The school can then advise you on whether to have your child evaluated for EED.

The school compiles a file and forwards it to an investigative agency contracted by the municipality. The investigative agency reviews the file and determines whether intervention is necessary.

If it turns out that your child is eligible for treatment, please contact Vraagwijzer. They will assist you with submitting the application.
