Animal Trail Festively Opened in West Maas en Waal
De Oversteek Elementary School, KION, and Bambino Daycare Center, together with the municipality of West Maas en Waal , held a festive opening ceremony for the municipality’s first Animal Fitness Trail. The trail was specially designed for children ages 1 to 6 and their parents or caregivers, and encourages physical activity in an accessible and playful way.

The Animal Exercise Trail is a route about one kilometer long, featuring colorful sidewalk tiles depicting various animals. Each animal is accompanied by an exercise challenge. For example, children can jump like a frog, stomp like an elephant, or swim like a fish. This is a fun way to encourage young children to be more active, together with their parents or caregivers.
The official opening took place on October 6. Alderman Rob Reuvers officiated the opening by cutting a ribbon together with the children. Afterward, those in attendance walked the route together and danced to cheerful animal songs.
Alderman Rob Reuvers is enthusiastic about the initiative: “With the Animal Exercise Trail, we’re making exercise fun and accessible for young children and their parents. It’s wonderful to see how play, discovery, and healthy development come together here. I’m proud that, through this initiative at West Maas en Waal , we’re encouraging children to enjoy exercise from an early age.”
The Animal Exercise Trail is part of an effort to encourage a healthy lifestyle and sufficient physical activity among young children. Later this year, two more Animal Exercise Trails will open at West Maas en Waal.
