The Maria School wins third West Maas and Waal Children's Municipal Council
The Children's Council meeting was held on May 16, with more than 130 fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, brothers, sisters, council members, and other interested parties in attendance in the public gallery.
It was an exciting meeting. The young council members needed three rounds of voting to reach a decision. The winning project is 'Group 8 cares' from De Mariaschool in Boven-Leeuwen. This year's theme was 'More fun together'.
Game afternoons with seniors
The pupils of De Mariaschool want to organize a fun morning or afternoon of games with 'Groep 8 zorgt' (Group 8 cares). This is intended for elderly people in our municipality. They will play games at the St. Elisabeth care center in Beneden-Leeuwen, the St. Barbara care center in Dreumel, and Kulturhus D'n Dulper in Boven-Leeuwen. The primary school pupils will visit the care centers. In D'n Dulper, there will be a collaboration with the 'Cooking with the Elderly' project. The afternoon will end with a game of bingo.
€ 5.000,-
The students were presented with a check worth €5,000 by the chair of the Council meeting, Mayor Vincent van Neerbos. The project will be implemented as soon as possible.
On Thursday, May 16, the municipality of West Maas en Waal, in collaboration with ProDemos - House for Democracy and the Rule of Law, organized the third Children's Municipal Council. Forty students from five elementary schools participated in this project. The students spent the entire afternoon preparing for the real council meeting.
The children's council is organized on behalf of the municipal council and aims to involve children more in political decision-making. By allowing them to engage with politics themselves, the pupils have experienced how politics works and how municipal decisions are made.
