Computer-based assessment in secondary and higher education

What is it?

Students in secondary, vocational, and higher education up to the age of 18 frequently use computers and the internet for school. Much of the learning material at school is offered digitally. Furthermore, the availability of a computer is considered the norm for completing homework assignments. Parents with a low income often have limited means to purchase a computer for their child. To prevent them from falling behind, the municipality of West Maas en Waal offers a scheme for the purchase of a computer (laptop, tablet, 2-in-1) and peripherals.

How does it work?

What are the requirements?

The program is intended for students in secondary, high school, and higher education who are not yet 18 years old.

Do you have

  • an income of up to 120% of the welfare standard
  • little or no equity and
  • children in secondary school who are 18 years of age or younger,

you may submit an application for the computer assistance program. You may also submit an application if, at the time of application, you are participating in an ongoing debt settlement program under the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Restructuring for Natural Persons Act. Additionally, a resident who has been assigned financial or budget management assistance by the municipal debt counselor is considered eligible.

What am I entitled to?

The maximum contribution is €600. If, in addition to the computer, software is purchased, software licenses are acquired and/or used for a fee, digital skills training is taken, etc., these expenses are only eligible for reimbursement if the €600 limit has not yet been fully utilized. “Additional” costs, such as for a PC desk, chair, ink cartridges, etc., are not eligible for reimbursement.

The reimbursement must be used for the purpose for which it was received. This must be done within 3 months of the reimbursement being granted. You must be able to demonstrate, using receipts or proof of payment, that the reimbursement received was used for the purpose for which it was received. No reimbursement may be requested for a calendar year that has already passed.

Each student may submit one application for a computer every four years.
