Computer control for secondary, high school, and higher education

What is it?

Secondary school pupils up to the age of 18 make extensive use of computers and the internet for school. Much of the school curriculum is offered digitally. In addition, the availability of a computer is considered the norm for doing homework assignments. Parents with low incomes often have limited opportunities to purchase a computer for their child. To prevent them from falling behind, the municipality of West Maas en Waal offers a scheme for the purchase of a computer (laptop, tablet, 2-in-1) and peripheral equipment.

How does it work?

What requirements must I meet?

The scheme is intended for students in secondary, high school, and higher education who are not yet 18 years old.

Do you have

  • an income up to 120% of the social assistance standard
  • no or little equity capital and
  • children in secondary or higher education up to the age of 18,

you can submit an application for the computer scheme. You can also submit an application if, at the time of application, you have a (current) debt settlement arrangement based on the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Rescheduling (Natural Persons) Act. Residents who have been granted financial or budget management assistance by the municipal debt assistance provider are also considered eligible.

What am I entitled to?

The maximum contribution is €600. If, in addition to the computer, software is purchased, (software) licenses are acquired and/or used for a fee, digital skills training is followed, etc., these are only eligible for reimbursement if the amount of €600 has not yet been fully spent. Additional costs for items such as a PC table, chair, ink cartridges, etc. are not eligible for reimbursement.

The compensation must be spent on the purpose for which it was received. This must be done within three months of the award. You must be able to demonstrate, on the basis of purchase and/or payment receipts, that the compensation received has been spent on the purpose for which it was received. No further compensation can be claimed for a calendar year that has already passed.

One application for a computer may be submitted per student once every four years.
