Committee Debate on the Status of the Granulite Case

This is an old post.

On April 7, the agenda item 'Progress of granulate: addendum 'Review - Granulate Research Over de Maas' and Council of State ruling' will be discussed in the Environment Committee debate of the House of Representatives. The municipality of West Maas en Waal is dissatisfied with the communication preceding this debate. Therefore, it has sent a letter to the State Secretary requesting to postpone the discussion.

Not informed

Following the Council of State's ruling on the granulate in Over de Maas, the Rijksoverheid and the municipality agreed to keep each other informed as governing bodies. The municipality is therefore surprised to learn through the Burgercollectief Dreumelse Waard that the file is being discussed in the committee.
Alderman Ans Mol is the portfolio holder for the municipality of West Maas en Waal on this file: “It is then difficult for me to respond thoroughly to questions from our municipal council and residents. In my opinion, this in no way aligns with the agreements made with the State Secretary regarding mutual information exchange.”

Arcadis Research Review

The debate touches on a memo from Arcadis—an addendum to the consulting firm’s study. The municipality was not informed about this either. Ans Mol: “If they had involved us, for example through preliminary consultations, regarding the content or conclusions of this memo, we would have been able to form our own opinion. We were previously involved in the main report through a sounding board group. Why not now?”
The municipality was unable to study the documents thoroughly and in a timely manner. It has therefore asked the State Secretary to wait for the results from Deltares and RIVM.
