Social Security Number
What is it?
Everyone has a unique personal identification number: the citizen service number (BSN). You do not need to apply for this number. If you are registered with a Dutch municipality, you will receive it automatically.
You can use your Social Security number at any government office, such as your local municipality. Healthcare providers and health insurers also use the Social Security number.
Do you live outside the Netherlands? You can register as a non-resident at an RNI office. You will then be issued a citizen service number.
