Moped license
How do I apply for a moped license?
Have you passed your driving test? Then you can apply for a moped license. You must apply for a moped license in person at the municipality. You can collect your license after about a week.
Urgent request
If you need your moped license quickly, you can submit an urgent application. If you apply for the license before 2 p.m., you can pick it up the next working day. This does cost extra money.
The costs of a moped license are:

How does it work?
You need a moped license to ride a:
- moped
- scooter
- moped
- microcar
- quad
- trike and
- speed pedelec (bicycle with electric pedal assistance with a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour)
What should I do?
You can take the theory exam for a moped license from the age of 15.5. From the age of 16, you can take driving lessons and take the practical exam.
No driving lessons or driving test required
If you have a driver's license (license B) or motorcycle license (license A), the moped license (license AM) will automatically be added to your driver's license.
Moped license lost or stolen
Have you lost your driver's license or has it been stolen?
- First report this online to the RDW. You will need a DigiD to do this.
Don't have a DigiD? Then report the loss to your local municipality. - Then apply for a new driver's license at the municipality. Bring a color passport photo and valid identification with you.
What do I need?
- A good-quality passport photo that is no older than 6 months at the time of application. This passport photo meets the passport photo requirements.
- Cash or a debit card. You pay immediately upon application.
- When applying for your first moped license: a valid passport or a valid identity card.
- When renewing your moped license: the moped license you already have. If this is no longer valid, please also bring a valid passport or valid identity card.
Obtaining a moped license
You must collect your moped license in person from the municipality. It is not necessary to make an appointment. Please bring your old moped license with you if you have one.
How long will it take?
- You can collect your driver's license from the municipality after about a week.
- If you have submitted an urgent application before 2 p.m., you can collect your driver's license the next working day.
Additional information
Serious offenses committed on a moped also count toward the beginner's driver's license. More information can be found on the CBR website.
If you have been declared unfit to hold a Class A or B driver's license for medical reasons, the AM category of the moped license will remain valid on your driver's license.
