Public assistance, in exchange for work

What is a consideration?

Werkzaak Rivierenland may require you to perform community service in exchange for your social assistance. Officially, this is called “Community service according to ability.” This applies if you are 18 years of age or older but younger than the retirement age. The community service involves performing unpaid work that benefits the community in exchange for receiving benefits.

Please note! If you fail to fulfill your obligation to provide services in return to the best of your ability, the municipality may adjust your social assistance benefits. This adjustment is made in accordance with the Adjustment Regulation.

What should I do?

Werkzaak Rivierenland will determine whether you are required to provide a service in return. You may file an objection or appeal this decision.
