Proof of Dutch citizenship
What is it?
Proof of Dutch citizenship is a written statement from the municipality. It states that you have Dutch nationality. You may need proof of Dutch citizenship if, for example, you:
- moving abroad
- is getting married
- applies for a position in public administration
What does it cost?
Proof of Dutch citizenship costs€13.00.
What should I do?
- You can request the proof from the municipality where you are registered.
- If you need the certificate for an institution abroad, you can request a multilingual certificate.
What should I bring?
- a valid form of identification
Authorize someone else
Write a letter containing the following information:
- Why you need proof of Dutch citizenship
- who the authorized representative is (this person must be of legal age)
- your signature
- the signature of the authorized representative
The representative takes this letter to the municipality together with:
- a copy of your valid ID
- his or her own identification document
Written requests
- your application bearing your signature
- a copy of your valid ID
How long will it take?
You will receive proof of Dutch citizenship immediately. If you apply for proof in writing, the municipality will send it to your home address. This will take a few days.
