Proof of Dutch Citizenship
What is it?
A certificate of Dutch citizenship is a written statement issued by the municipality. It confirms that you hold Dutch citizenship. You may need a certificate of Dutch citizenship, for example, if you:
- moving abroad
- is getting married
- is applying for a position in public administration
How much does it cost?
A certificate of Dutch citizenship costs€13.00.
What should I do?
- You can request the certificate from the municipality where you are registered.
- If you need the certificate for an institution abroad, you can request a multilingual certificate.
What should I bring?
- a valid form of identification
Authorize someone else
Write a letter that includes the following information:
- Why you need proof of Dutch citizenship
- who the authorized representative is (this person must be of legal age)
- your signature
- the authorized representative's signature
The representative will take this letter to the municipality along with:
- a copy of your valid ID
- his or her own identification
Submit a written request
- your application, signed by you
- a copy of your valid ID
How long does it take?
You will receive your certificate of Dutch citizenship immediately. If you request the certificate in writing, the municipality will mail it to your home address. This will take a few days.
