Proof of being alive
What is it?
With a proof of life certificate, you can show on paper that you are alive. You can request a proof of life certificate from your local municipality.
How does it work?
You need proof of life, for example, if your life insurer or pension fund requests it.
Proof of life is valid in:
- Netherlands
- Aruba
- Curaçao
- Bonaire
- Saint Martin
- Saint Eustatius
- Saba
If you need to prove that you are alive in another country, you can request a certificate of life.
What should I do?
You can request proof of life in person or in writing from the municipality.
What should I bring?
- valid identification
If you need the proof for a pension fund, you will also need the letter from the pension fund requesting it.

How long will it take?
You will receive the document immediately. If you have requested the proof in writing, it will be sent to your home address. This may take a few days.
