Proof of Life
What is it?
A certificate of life allows you to prove, in writing, that you are alive. You can request a certificate of life from your local municipality.
How does it work?
You will need proof of life, for example, if your life insurance company or pension fund requests it.
A proof of life is valid in:
- Netherlands
- Aruba
- Curaçao
- Bonaire
- Saint Martin
- St. Eustatius
- Saba
If you need to prove that you are alive in another country, you should request a certificate of life.
What should I do?
You can request a life certificate in person or in writing from the municipality.
What should I bring?
- valid identification
If you need the proof for a pension fund, you will also need the letter from the pension fund requesting it.

How long does it take?
You will receive the document right away. If you requested the document in writing, it will be mailed to your home. This may take a few days.
