Board Statement on Electrical Connections

Why is prioritization necessary?

In the Netherlands, the power grid is overloaded in many places (grid congestion). The government wants to ensure that critical infrastructure receives priority access to power. For this reason, new and higher-capacity connections are placed on a waiting list. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) gives priority to certain functions, which are placed higher on the waiting list.

By submitting a management statement, you demonstrate that your project falls under a priority category.

Which projects are eligible for priority?

There are three functions that are given priority:

  1. Congestion-Relief Projects: Projects that provide grid flexibility or enable energy storage, thereby immediately creating more capacity on the power grid for you and others
  2. Safety: Organizations that are essential to national and public safety, such as hospitals, drinking water systems, the military, and emergency call centers
  3. Basic Needs: Basic social services such as housing, education, and public transportation

Statement from the Board

Do you need a statement from the municipality to request priority for a new electricity connection? You’ll find the application form below. Please fill out the form only if your utility provider or the municipality West Maas en Waal has asked you to do so.

If the municipality applies for priority status on your behalf, you will need:

  • A civil agreement
  • Or a copy of the agreement between the municipality and the developer setting forth the terms regarding housing needs
