Certificate of life (international proof of being alive)
What is a certificate of life?
A certificate of life is an international document proving that you are alive. You can apply for a certificate of life in person at your local municipality.
If you need proof of life in the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, do not request an attestation de vita, but rather proof of life.
How does it work?
You will need a certificate of life, for example, if your foreign life insurer or pension fund requests it. A certificate of life is available in Dutch and French. The document is valid for 6 months.
What do I need?
- A valid form of identification.
- If you are requesting the attestation de vita for a pension fund, please also bring the letter from the pension fund requesting this.
How long will it take?
You will receive the document immediately.
