Serving alcohol during events

What is it?

If you wish to serve and sell alcohol during an event, you will need a permit from the municipality.

How does it work?

The following conditions apply to the serving and sale of alcohol during an event:

  • You may not serve or sell alcohol to children under the age of 18.
  • You may not serve or sell spirits (>15% alcohol) at the event.
  • The person in charge of the alcohol:
    • is at least 21 years old;
    • Is not of bad character (no criminal record)

No permit or exemption required

If you wish to serve alcohol at a private party, you do not need to apply for an alcohol license or exemption.

What should I do?

You must apply for the exemption from the municipality where the event is being held. Include the following information with your application:

  • date of the event
  • at what times you want to serve alcohol

What do I need?

  • your valid proof of identity

How long will it take?

You will receive notification within 8 weeks as to whether you will be granted the exemption.

Lodge an objection

Do you disagree with the municipality's decision? If so, you can lodge an objection within six weeks.

Please note! To organize an event, you must also apply for an event permit from the municipality.
