Serving alcohol at an event
What is it?
If you wish to serve and sell alcohol during an event, you need a permit from the municipality.

How does it work?
The following Requirements apply to the serving and sale of alcohol during an event:
- You may not serve or sell alcohol to children under the age of 18.
- You may not serve or sell spirits (>15% alcohol) at the event.
- The person in charge of the alcohol:
- is at least 21 years old;
- Has no history of misconduct (no criminal record)
No permit or exemption required
If you wish to serve alcohol at a private party, you do not need to apply for a liquor license or exemption.
What should I do?
You must apply for the exemption from the municipality where the event will be held. Please include the following information with your application:
- date of the event
- at what times you would like to serve alcohol
What do I need?
- your valid ID
How long does it take?
You will be notified within 8 weeks whether your exemption has been granted.
File an objection
If you disagree with the municipality’s decision, you can file an objection within 6 weeks.
