Participation Program for Children Up to Age 17

What is it?

The Municipality of West Maas en Waal encourages children to participate in educational, healthy, or fun activities, even if you have less to spend. We also want to promote children's participation in sports and recreational activities. However, sports and participation in activities are not cheap. Under certain Requirements, you may be eligible for a contribution towards the costs for your child(ren).

What are the requirements?

The allowance is provided exclusively to parents/guardians for children under the age of 18. You must, of course, be a resident of our municipality. In addition, your income must not exceed 120% of the public assistance threshold, and you must have little or no personal assets. You may also submit an application if, at the time of application, you have an ongoing debt settlement plan under the Municipal Debt Assistance Act or the Debt Restructuring for Natural Persons Act. Furthermore, a resident to whom the municipal debt counselor has assigned financial or budget management is considered an eligible recipient.

What is it for?

For children aged 0 to 18, this covers the costs of:

A. Youth social participation: Costs related to social participation are deemed to include, at a minimum, school-related expenses (e.g., parent-teacher association fees, costs of participating in school and extracurricular activities), basic necessities such as clothing and transportation costs (including those for participating in activities), a bicycle (or its maintenance), holiday and children’s activities throughout the year, membership in an association focused on social, cultural, or educational activities (such as a music or theater club and the costs of related supplies/props), and

B. Sports and physical activity: this is understood to include, at a minimum, the following

  • membership in an association or club that focuses on sports and/or physical activities;
  • costs of equipment, clothing, and footwear that enable participation in sports and/or recreational activities (whether or not through a sports club or organization);
  • costs associated with participating in sports or physical activity;
  • costs of sports or physical activities that are not organized through a club, etc.

What am I entitled to?

If you Requirements the Requirements , you are entitled to a contribution of up to €525 per child per calendar year, which consists of:

A. An amount of up to €175 to cover the costs of social participation (see section A above) and

B. An amount of up to €350 to cover the costs of sports and physical activity (as described in section B above).

The amount of the benefit to which a person is entitled depends on the length of time that person has resided in the municipality. The amount is based on the number of full months per calendar year.

The contributions listed under A and B above must be spent on the child for whom they were requested, for the purpose for which they were received, and the funds must be spent within the calendar year in which the application was submitted.
Upon request, you must be able to demonstrate how the awarded funds were spent by providing receipts, invoices, or similar documentation, or be able to provide a plausible explanation.

It is not possible to submit an application for previous years.

Please note: If you do not have children or if your children are over 18, you may be eligible for the Adult Social Participation Program.

What should I do?

If you believe you meet the Requirements, you can submit an application for the Participation Program for 0- to 18-year-olds. Werkzaak Rivierenland administers this program on our behalf.
