The West Maas en Waal Coalition West Maas en Waal the “Together!” Agreement

On Tuesday, June 16, FD West Maas en Waal CDA West Maas en Waal presentedWest Maas en Waal coalition agreement. They then presented it to Mayor Vincent van Neerbos. The agreement is titled “Together!” and outlines both parties’ plans for 2026–2030. The parties will continue the collaboration that began in 2022. Their goal: a strong, engaged, and forward-looking community.

The coalition wants to be close to residents and work together to find solutions. The agreement clearly outlines the areas on which they intend to focus in the coming years.

Together is the focus

The name “Samen!” was chosen deliberately. The coalition recognizes the power of the bonds between people. Residents, business owners, and community organizations need each other.
The coalition has observed that people are increasingly going their own way. This can weaken the bonds between them. That is why the coalition is committed to “togetherness”: living together, working together, and helping one another. This makes the villages stronger and more pleasant places to live.

Seven Clear Priorities

The agreement contains seven clear priorities that set the course for the future of West Maas en Waal. It aims to:

  1. Being resident-friendly and hospitable;
  2. Continuing to build a vibrant society;
  3. Housing development that is balanced and meets local needs;
  4. A thriving local economy;
  5. A pleasant place to live; healthy villages and a vibrant community life;
  6. Being accessible and safe;
  7. Being sustainable and forward-thinking.

A solid foundation for implementation

The organization is in good financial shape and can invest in these priority areas. Work can be carried out quickly and flexibly thanks to short lines of communication.
At the same time, the coalition also sees areas for improvement. For example, the organization is vulnerable due to limited capacity. There is also room for improvement in how information is documented. That is why the coalition wants to strengthen cooperation between municipal council, executive board civil servants. Trust and clear agreements are key to this.

Change calls for action

The world is changing rapidly. National and international developments are unfolding in quick succession. Climate change is a major issue. It also affects the local environment and brings uncertainty. But we are also facing an aging population, labor shortages, and financial uncertainty. We are also encountering an increasing number of regulations.
The coalition aims, within the legal framework, to create space for ideas and prevent regulations from hindering plans. In addition, it is committed to strengthening cooperation with partners in the region to gain greater influence and effectiveness.

Building the Future Together

With “Samen!”, the coalition is opting for a bottom-up approach. Residents actively contribute their ideas and get involved. There is room to listen and to implement ideas from the community.
The message is clear: together, our community becomes stronger, more livable, and ready for the future.
